For these reasons and more,

I’m switching to another service.

Yup, you read it right. I really like del.icio.us, and still I’m switching. Well why the heck would I be so possessed to do that? Ok, I’ll be honest, I’m not just gonna jump off the del.icio.us boat. It’s just that I want to try out ma.gnolia.com, aka Magnolia, and I can’t manage both my del.icio.us and ma.gnolia bookmarks at the same time. Call it whatever you like.

I have a hunch that in the coming days and years, the web will be less about functionality and more about the communities that use the site. Magnolia has pleasing aesthetic qualities (though it is All Up in My GrillTM), and seems to be pointed at a slightly different audience than Delicious. Perhaps I’m part of this different audience, one that appreciates nice aesthetics. Or perhaps I’ll end up missing Delicious’s bland interface.
