That&#8217;s right, I&#8217;ve made the switch.  I&#8217;m writing my first blog entry from the new machine.  It&#8217;s always exciting to get a new computer, but this has been especially interesting because I&#8217;ve had to learn a whole new operating system, which hasn&#8217;t been as much of a chore as I had originally expected. <\/p>\n<p>Downsides:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The keyboard is of lower quality than my IBM Thinkpad.<\/li>\n<li>I really miss the IBM Trackpoint&#8230;it was so much easier to use than a trackpad.<\/li>\n<li>Screen size is smaller on this machine<\/li>\n<li>There is no &#8216;Delete&#8217; key!  Only backspace&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Upsides:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everything about this machine is beautiful -&gt; The display, operating system, software, entire package&#8230;<\/li>\n<li>Battery life is much better than expected (at 4.5 hours)<\/li>\n<li>I find myself focused on the details of the things I work on&#8230;rather than just getting things to work.<\/li>\n<li>Perl and Python are preinstalled&#8230;so I can program easily<\/li>\n<li>The system is UNIX based, so I can navigate through and manipulate all my files easily!<\/li>\n<li>There are other things that I&#8217;m not thinking of&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The switch has been easy thus far.  I&#8217;ve been very impressed with the design of this system.
