Who rocks the house? IU Informatics Rocks the House!

5 teams, count ’em…5! Simply amazing. Five teams from the IU Informatics HCI/d program were chosen for the CHI 2007 Student Design Competition. Let’s review the participants and outcomes in all of the previous SDC’s:

  • 2006 – 2 teams selected from IU, one of which won the competition
  • 2005 – 4 teams selected, one of which won the competition
  • 2004 – 2 teams selected, one of which took second place in a gut-wrenching tie-breaker, the other team took fourth

It looks like we have quite a tradition here…Best of luck to the IU teams. I’m sure you’ll all represent as the great designers I’m sure you all are. Congrats.

Now, I just have to convince my company that it is a good investment to send me to CHI2007 to cheer you all on…

    Dear Thoughtworks employers,

    Please excuse Josh Evnin from work for the week of April 28 to May 3. He is needed in San Jose to do designerly things, including: (1) help organize a Design Club session; (2) participate in an HCI unconference; (3) network with old and new friends from the design pipeline that is Indiana University School of Informatics; and (4) take more pictures of himself in various places with “the pose.”

    Speaking of CHI … I was looking for photos of our group’s posters (and any others) that could be used to show the current crop of students some ideas. I found this instead. As I recall, there is a picture somewhere of you and Erik doing these little hand gestures. I was wondering where the origin of this is – is it just serendipity that another CHI group did the same thing, did you meet them, did you copy them?
