I keep bumping into new technologies thingies today. It seems like web 2.0 is really pumping out some new ideas lately…

Thumbstacks: Online presentation creation and playback. Cool idea (one that I’ve had for my capstone for a while), but I think the execution is a little weak so far. I have a feeling they’re gonna put some sort of lame Web 2.0 skin on it to try to fix the UI…but it’s a kind of broken UI at this point. (Thanks for the link, Kynthia)

Skobee: Make plans with people and related stuff. Sort of like Evite, but prettier. I’d like to try this with some of my IU friends…anybody up for it?

Zoho Creator: This is a little tool that helps people program little web widgets without needing to know how to program. Seems like a cool idea.

    i found skobee today too, and looked at it a bit. i’ll play! what should we plan? sunday dinner?

    Ok, so I’m dense. What makes Thumbstacks different from/better than PowerPoint?

    Well, Thumbstacks is a web-based presentation tool, whereas PowerPoint is stuck on your desktop, along with all the files created in it. This means if you use Thumbstacks you’ll be able to create/edit/view a presentation from anywhere with an internet connection. Plus you can share files with people easily.

    I think the hidden positive feature in Thumbstacks is its simplicity. PowerPoint lets you do everything, but you don’t need to use all the features to make a good presentation. In fact, the best presentations are generally very simply “slided.”

    There have to be other advantages to using Thumbstacks, but since I’m not their PR guy (yet), I think I’ll stop there. 🙂
